A magazine loader is not provided, but it turns out that one isn't needed: Kel-Tec engineers managed to reliably load a variety of high-velocity .22 LR cartridges without resorting to overly fast springs.
Steel barrels, nails and bolts are made of machined steel. Thin frame printed and folded. The unusual slide is a steel frame that only includes the top and front movement, with half of the handle frame on the side.
The handle frame is foldable (typical of Kel-Tec), although some of the design elements look a little unattractive. For example, publishing an obscure magazine in the patchwork style. A crooked single-phase drive can break even three pins.
The double main body provides symmetrical firing pin pressure, reducing friction in the firing mechanism. When the gun is about to fire, a red trigger indicator appears on the back of the frame. The P17 is a drop-proof hammer.

I approve of not having a magazine cutout, as this "feature" on some pistols complicates the cleaning process and reduces safety. All controls are adequately protected against accidental activation.
The gun looks short because it is compressed to full size, but the barrel is 3.8 inches long. Easily balanced by hand for deliberate shooting.
The proof of value is always the ability to put out fires. Kel-Tec spent an extra year developing the P17 to make sure it works reliably with a variety of ammunition. It was pretty accurate with all kinds of loads.
Sharp aiming and smooth movement help with resolution. At 50 yards, 8-inch steel is an easy target for the P17, and at 100 yards, the IDPA round is just as easy. The function is flawless.

The P17 is often considered a direct competitor to the Taurus TX22. It is a third lighter, about 40% cheaper and comes with another magazine.
The TX22 samples I've seen are accurate and reliable, but they all have the rear sight over the vents, and they're still pointed slightly or significantly to the right (with boosters).
One area where the TX22 excels is printing with high-speed axes. The P17's short hole is open on both sides, so a strong hand can hang close to the fingertip.
This same feature gives the P17 advantages that aren't possible with a joystick or even the TX22's full-length slider.

Overall, the P17 is a consistently reliable, accurate pistol that is ideal for slide shooting, outdoor kit, and possibly competition. High reliability, good accuracy and light weight make it competitive with .22s.
